Ringer was viciously assaulted in his backyard yesterday by an unknown assailant; in fact, he was knocked out by over twelve blows to his face and head. After he regained consciousness, he called 911 to report the incident.
Ringer has had to call the police twice recently after vandals spray-painted his house with election graffiti; the victim also had a brick thrown through his storm window.
Ringer stated he spotted the man in his backyard. The story does not say why the victim walked to the assailant, who had his back turned to him, but he did and attempted to put him in a bear hug and wrestle him to the ground. Ringer is 69 years old and was easily out-maneuvered.
He told the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, “He was larger than I am, and he pinned me down on my left side. ... He hit me 10 to 12 times in the head, in the face, and by the eye, and he knocked me out.”
Taken together, Mr. Ringer said he can’t help but be suspicious that the three incidents within three weeks of the general election are related to his candidacy, especially considering how “calm and quiet a neighborhood” it is.
The incidents in Mr. Ringer’s Uniontown area neighborhood come as election officials around Pennsylvania and elsewhere brace for potential harassment and violence on Election Day.
Acting Secretary of State Leigh Chapman acknowledged Monday at the Pennsylvania Press Club luncheon in Harrisburg that there has been an increase in election-related threats since the 2020 election. In a call with reporters last week, she said her office has received threats in recent weeks.
The attack on candidate Ringer has received little press coverage as the assassination attempt on the Speaker of the House, along with the news coverage of the vicious attack on her husband Paul, unfolded over the weekend. That attack included a terrible blow from a hammer to the 82-year-olds brain cap.
Ringer was pummeled to unconsciousness at his own house yesterday. I haven’t seen any updates on his condition.
