Update 2 — 12:40 The Tsunami warning has been canceled.
Huge casualties are expected out of the impoverished nation of Haiti after a 7.2 quake hit the island, although Port Au Prince has not borne the worst of it. The news is breaking, so there is not a lot to report at this moment and facts on the ground will change, please don’t take my head off when information changes.

As you may recall the 2010 quake that killed at least 310,000 people was a 7.0 on the Richter Scale. This is extremely worrisome and will be tough to watch as the human toll is revealed via social media.
Haiti is in political turmoil from the assassination of President Jovenel Moise in July.
The tsunami alert is expected to affect the Caribbean. The US Mainland will not be affected. No word on the USVI or Puerto Rico. NOAA triggered the alert.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — A magnitude 7 earthquake struck Haiti on Saturday morning, seismologists said, shaking the country.
The United States Geological Survey said the quake struck five miles from the town of Petit Trou de Nippes in the western part of the country, about 80 miles west of Port-au-Prince. Seismologists said it had a depth of seven miles. It was felt as far away as Jamaica, 200 miles away.
There were no immediate reports of damage or fatalities.
The U.S.G.S. said it was a magnitude 7 quake.
The U.S. Tsunami Warning System said there was no tsunami warning after the quake.
Haiti was the scene of a devastating earthquake in 2010. That magnitude 7 quake killed more than 220,000 people and leveled much of the capital, Port-au-Prince.
