“Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.” James Baldwin
A planetary-wide catastrophic climate crisis has just begun to engulf humanity, it will only get worse as conditions continue to deteriorate due to carbon fuel emissions pumping greenhouse gases into the atmosphere - yet we seem paralyzed to do anything about it.
Climate change impacts include deadly ocean heat waves , lethal wet bulb temperatures will be picking up steam and will kill the world’s poor in increasing numbers, explosions of red-tide, changing rainfall patterns such as drought and rain bombs will challenge the ability of agriculture to feed us, erratic firestorms will continue to wreak havoc across California and the Mediterranean, violence and wars.
These events are occurring today, and unfortunately for our offspring, we have not seen anything yet. The Green New Deal has been discussed at Daily Kos and will continue to do so. But the GND is not the point of this dairy.
Instead, I want to share what we are up against within GOP circles and the fossil fuel industries, and their blatant attempt to kill the biosphere for greed.
Also, there appear to be new barriers to keeping the earth habitable for children today. They will have to live with the climate crisis for the rest of their days. Those of us who will not witness should offer respect and concrete proposals of action worthy of the scale of the disaster.
How Google, Microsoft, and Big Tech Are Automating the Climate Crisis
Brian Mechant writes:
In a deal that made few ripples outside the energy industry, two very large but relatively obscure companies, Rockwell Automation and Schlumberger Limited, announced a joint venture called Sensia. The new company will “sell equipment and services to advance digital technology and automation in the oilfield,” according to the Houston Chronicle. Yet the partnership has ramifications far beyond Houston’s energy corridor: It’s part of a growing trend that sees major tech companies teaming with oil giants to use automation, AI, and big data services to enhance oil exploration, extraction, and production.
Rockwell is the world’s largest company that is dedicated to industrial automation, and Schlumberger, a competitor of Halliburton, is the world’s largest oilfield services firm. Sensia will be, according to the press release, “the first fully integrated digital oilfield automation solutions provider.” It will enable drilling rigs to run on automated schedules, enhance communication between oilfield equipment, and help machinery assess when it is in need of repair or modification—all in the name of making drilling for oil smarter, cheaper, and more efficient.

“It is indeed disturbing to see the tech industry helping move civilization back into the fossil age even as they purport to be about cutting edge technology intended to lead us into the future,” said Dr. Michael Mann, Distinguished Professor of Atmospheric Science at Penn State. “It ultimately speaks to the amorality of corporate interests.”
While Google, Microsoft, and Amazon may put on a progressive air towards climate change and extol their own clean energy investments, they are in reality deep into the process of automating the climate crisis.
You Tube disinformation is enabling climate denialsim and inaction.
Can YouTube Solve Its Serious Climate Science Denial Problem?
From De Smog Blog:
“What are we in for next?” asks the narrator on the YouTube video.
“Will the temperature resume an upward trend? Will it remain flat for a lengthy period? Or will it begin to drop? No one knows, not even the biggest, fastest computers.”
The video — with the clickbait title “What They Haven’t Told You about Climate Change” — has been watched more than 2.5 million times on the Google-owned video platform.
Produced by the conservative group PragerU, the video sees Canadian lobbyist and fossil fuels advocate Patrick Moore run through a long-debunked argument that because the world’s climate has changed before, there’s no problem with burning record amounts of fossil fuels.
Moore claims, for example, there has been “no significant warming trend” in the 21st century — not mentioning that nine of the 10 warmest years on record have occurred since 2005, or that the world’s oceans have been heating rapidly.
Despite the clear errors, the video has gathered more views than any other climate science denial clip on YouTube. All up, PragerU claims the video has been watched 4.4 million times across all platforms.
A search on YouTube for the most viewed “climate change” videos has Moore’s effort ranked 13th — searching for “global warming” has it ranked 19th.
I wish I knew how to start a social movement that targets Big Tech to stop enabling the fossil fuel industry Alas, I don’t.
