Sound the alarm, people, there is a mile-wide loophole that should have every citizen who loves their children alarmed. It’s difficult to fathom, but the AR-15, the preferred weapon of mass murderers, has become even more deadly—and the deplorables will be able to buy them legally as Christmas gifts for their friends and family. In fact, the rifle is already sold out.
The National Firearms Act (NFA) was passed in 1934 by an act of Congress; it “imposes a statutory excise tax on the manufacture and transfer of certain firearms” (machine guns, for example) and it also codifies the registration of those firearms. The gun industry has found a way around the rule.
The Gilboa Snake is a double barreled AR-15. It, along with other variants of the rifle, was developed and is produced in Israel (and soon to be in the United States) by Silver Shadow. It fires multiple bullets at the same time, or in rapid bursts known as “salvo fire.”
The civilian variant features a pair of separate and independent gas blocks and pistons. The double trigger configuration avoids the ATF’s definition of a machine gun as a firearm that fires multiple rounds with a single trigger pull. The select-fire version features a single trigger. Smarty StuffThere was a single trigger system that fired rounds through both barrels simultaneously. This was problematic because it was classified as “machine gun” under the NFA. One pull of the trigger can launch only one round — not two, according to our ATF overlords.
Gilboa has since fixed this compliance issue by installing two triggers. Shooters can still fire two rounds off at once, but they have to pull both triggers to do so.
These are weapons of war, period, and they will be in the hands of those who specifically intend to kill as many humans as possible, in the shortest amount of time, for their 15 minutes of fame. Shame on the GOP, Trump and other gun advocates for arming white nationalists and other domestic terrorists.
Having two separate triggers allows users to deliver rounds through each barrel independently or simultaneously, and the firearm can be obtained with a single ATF registration as a short barreled rifle (SBR). Gilboa also plans to release another version of the snake with 16-inch barrels that won’t require SBR paperwork. Guns and Ammo MagazineTwo magazines that hold 30 rounds each. Two barrels. Two triggers. What could possibly go wrong? Expect even more victims of gun violence in our nation’s schools, movie theatres, nightclubs and concerts. I am not sure how to fight this injustice, but the first step is to dump this can of worms on the kitchen table for all to see.
