Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden is a true American treasure located about a 45 minute white knuckle drive from my home to Coral Gables in S. Miami. But the journey is so worth it. It has a hothouse that is home to many tropical plants most of which do not grow in S. Florida because of our dry season. I would say sometimes our cold winter is a hindrance as well, but we haven’t seen a cold winter for many a year. The garden, also has a butterfly atrium, though not as large or diverse of a collection as the beautiful butterfly atrium located at Broward County’s Butterfly World. The Fairchild’s mission is to save and conserve tropical diversity. I found these photos on my phone from a year ago, which I had never uploaded and shared. Some of the photos were taken in the hot house, while others were taken elsewhere in the 85 acre garden.
? Anthurium veitchii, an epiphytic aroid that grows on trees with leaves up to 6' long Vandaceous orchid Ruffled Fan Palm, Vanuatu Fan Palm, Palas Palm ? Shell ginger? ? A little concrete pond inside the hot house to add just a tad more steam to the environment. ? ? Palm tree bloom in the hot house. ?I have cleaned up the mess from the summer season, and the wind damage from Irma. I need to water today, and other than that, just chillax for the holidays. That's what is happening in my garden. What’s happening in yours?
Happy holidays to all.
