Scary news out of California this morning. There appears to be a real possibility that the City of Ventura could be engulfed in flames from a wildfire. Prospects for fighting the fire are slim to none in the hot and dry conditions as winds are gusting at 60 mph making water drops useless. I hope that the citizens of California get more then “thoughts and prayers” from our GOP overlords. I have no doubt that we will be told that this is not the time to discuss climate change. Grrrr
Exactly where is the fucking media ? This could become apocalyptic.
The GOP should know that this is what terrorism looks like on a large scale. It’s a pity they don’t believe in science and we should make sure to vote as many of them as we can out of office.
A fast-moving, wind-fueled wildfire swept into the city of Ventura early Tuesday, burning 25,000 acres, destroying multiple homes and forcing thousands to evacuate.
“The fire is still out of control and structures are threatened throughout the fire area,” authorities said in an alert just before 2 a.m. “Due to the intensity of the fire, crews are having trouble making access, but there are multiple reports of structures on fire.”
The extent of the losses were unclear, but fire officials said there was little they could do stop the flames being pushed by wind gusts of up to 50 mph.
"The prospects for containment are not good,” Ventura County Fire Chief Mark Lorenzen at a news conference. “Really mother nature is going to decide.”
A fast-moving brush fire that ignited outside Santa Paula, California, this evening is racing towards the city of Ventura.
It is not known how the fire started, but officials were already on high alert due to the recently warm, dry and windy weather conditions. As a result, firefighting efforts began soon after the fire was reported. It has been dubbed the Thomas Fire.
The fire was reported at around 6:25 p.m. local time, and firefighters were in place shortly before 7:00 p.m. to begin protecting threatened homes.
"Strong winds and low humidity will continue to hamper firefighters trying to contain the Thomas Fire," said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dan Pydynowski.
A High Wind Warning and a Red Flag Warning are both in effect for Ventura County.
"Winds will remain from the northeast, gusting as high as 60 mph, pushing flames toward the general direction of Santa Paula into Tuesday," Pydynowski warned.
Please use this diary for updates. This will be major news today, hopefully more information will come shortly.
