Dis and Dat on the climate crisis.

I honestly can’t keep up. The climate news, particularly on Twitter, contains increasing examples of climate change as a threat multiplier. Many scientists post but rarely comment anymore. It’s like they are nonplussed, surprised, and unable to react or verbalize what they are witnessing.

When I started to focus on climate change at Daily Kos, there was plenty of news to cover. Now that events have heated up, staying on top of it is difficult, at least for the attention I believe it deserves. I have decided to prepare a diary of mostly tweets covering current events occasionally—this diary is what to expect.

The hard work of researching specific topics will continue. Those will become fewer and far between because, as I mentioned earlier, everybody is tongue-tied at the moment, including me.

Without further ado:

Antarctica

With all the talk of record high temperatures in the Northern hemisphere, this is the high temperature map I find most amazing today, with temperatures above freezing reaching all the way to the coast of Antarctica near the Thwaites glacier. pic.twitter.com/afydzenqgV

Siberia

It's not only Canada that has wildfires. This video, from Japan's #Himawari weather sat, shows smoke and wildfires in Siberia. Watch on the left - one cluster of fires is powerful enough to trigger a HUGE thunderstorm! These storms are known as PyroCbs: https://t.co/w8w028Jp08pic.twitter.com/xvssV3Fh7i
